Six Northwich players make County grade
On Sunday September 27th Northwich women and girls section provided no fewer than six players for county action. In games against Northumberland, Hailey Coutts, Jodie Coutts and Natalie Wilson helped the women’s team 32-20 win, with Hailey connvertinng one of the Cheshire tries. Thea Breau, Amy Johnson and Nieve Jones were selected for the U18’s game and helped Cheshire to a resounding 41-8 win. Nieve scored the first try from a characteristic break and helped create another after running 30 yards through the Northumberland defence. Nieve added another three conversions after Cheshire forwards featuring Amy Johnson fought a hard battle with the larger Northumberland pack feeding regular ball to their wingers who outpaced their counterparts on both wings. All the players are looking forward to games with Yorkshire and Lancashire in October. Stay tuned for detail of the games.

Don’t forget we are always looking for new players of all ages. Just call or email us for more information.

Great season!
Northwich Ladies finished in a respectable mid-table position and have come a long way in such a short time. When we started out this season we have 80% new players and were hoping to use this season to gain experience and confidence and start building the massively depleted team back up after the previous season. . This has been a great success and with a season of ups and downs we have learnt and developed so much. We enjoyed a number of wins and learnt from a number of loses! Natalie (Hooker), Mel McPhillips (Prop), Karen Gooch (2nd Row) and Hailey Coutts (centre or 2nd row) were all selected to represent Cheshire this season, Jodie Coutts (number 10) played for North-West. This is testiment to the quailty players in the current team.

Off the pitch the girls have developed a positive team spirit and friendships that extend beyond the rugby field. Our calendar was a great success and we managed to raised lots of funds for new equipment. All of the teams efforts and contributions will be celebrated at the Northwich RUFC Annual Awards night on May 29th at Hartford Legion.

We have loads coming up in the summer including Vale of Lune 10's, TOUR to Solstice Sevens and our own annual 10's Tournament that has now become a regular feature of the Northwich Festival Weekend in August. Then we can look to the future and next season and the tasks of further player recruitment and pre-season training. This would be the perfect time for those ladies that have always wanted to try something new to come down and give ladies rugby a go.

Throughout the summer we will be doing various fun fitness sessions on a Tuesday night at Moss Farm at 7pm, activities include rounders, aqua aerobics and football if people are interested in getting involved then they can contact me for more information - 07788 502682.

Northwich girls make U18’s county & regionals

Three Northwich Girls were selected as part of the 2008-9 County and North West regional squads. All the players featured both in the Cheshire county game beating Lancashire in October convincingly and regional games via West Midlands and North East in February & March. All players managed to get on the score sheets with both tries and conversions.

In the National tournament in March in Lichfield, the players were in action again, against teams from across England and Wales. The squad played very well and were unfortunate to lose to a single ‘golden’ try against the North East but beat Yorkshire in the bowl competition.

Women win plate
The Women’s 10’s competition ran at the Northwich Festival over the bank holiday weekend proved to be big success. The weather held out all day as 5 teams battled it out for the Northwich 10's Champions Trophy 2008 - previously held by Camp Hill Ladies. Teams including Waterloo, Rossendale, Chesterfield and two sides from Northwich Ladies played a round robin tournament. There was a fantastic display from all teams but Waterloo Ladies outclassed all opponents to finish as tournament winners, they were unbeaten throughout the whole day and only had one try scored against them - of course it was by Northwich Ladies!!

Northwich Ladies saw the debut of numerous players that are completely new to the game and are overjoyed and proud to be runners up in the tournament - picking up the runners up Plate. More pictures are on the match report page and at http://www.flickr.com/photos/23007426@N05/sets/72157606941668329               August 2008
